The ORIGIMAGIC C4 SE is a 5-inch-square mini PC aimed at desk duty and small always-on jobs: a file share, a media box, or a soft router. Intel N-series boxes at the same money usually ship one Ethernet jack and one M.2 slot; the C4 SE gives you two of each. The Ryzen 5 3500U beats the N-series and trails current mobile chips

PassMark’s database gives the Ryzen 5 3500U a CPU Mark of 6772 and a single-thread rating of 1900, and ranks it 500th of 1,647 laptop processors (cpubenchmark.net). The chip is a quad-core, eight-thread Zen+ part from early 2019 with a 2.1 GHz base clock, a 3.7 GHz boost, 4MB of L3 cache, and Radeon Vega 8 graphics; ORIGIMAGIC rates the box at 25W.

That puts the C4 SE ahead of the Intel N97 and N150 boxes it competes with on price, and well behind anything built on a current mobile chip. Routing packets, serving files, and driving a browser and a spreadsheet all run fine on it. Video encoding, a large set of open tabs, and GPU-bound work run noticeably slower than on a current chip. Vega 8 handles 4K playback and older or lightweight games, not current titles.

Ports, memory, and storage

The rear panel carries the DC barrel jack, both RJ45 jacks, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, one USB 2.0 port, and a Kensington lock slot. The front face holds two more USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a USB-C port, a 3.5mm combo audio jack, and the power button. HDMI and DisplayPort each drive 4K at 60Hz; the USB-C output is capped at 1080p, so a third screen runs at the lower resolution.

That second slot runs at PCIe 3.0 x1, so a drive in it reads and writes at roughly a quarter of the boot drive’s ceiling; it suits bulk storage rather than a second fast working drive. There is no 2.5-inch bay.

Where it fits

The second Gigabit port lets the box sit between two networks without a USB adapter or an expansion card, which is why the C4 SE suits an OPNsense or pfSense router, a firewall between a modem and a switch, or a small file server. The 25W rating and the 32GB memory ceiling suit that kind of low-load, always-on work.

As a general desktop it is a harder sell. The ORIGIMAGIC COMET C4 uses the faster 35W Ryzen 5 3550H and ships with 16GB and a 512GB drive, and the ORIGIMAGIC C4 Plus covers the same dual-NIC brief with a PCIe 3.0 x4 second M.2 slot instead of the x1 slot here.
