Acer Chromebook Spin 513 (CP513-2H)
Published on
The Acer Chromebook Spin 513 (CP513-2H) suits people who spend the day in documents, web apps, and spreadsheets and want a tall 3:2 touchscreen with no fan noise. The tradeoffs are a MediaTek Kompanio 1380 ARM chip that trails Intel and AMD Chromebooks on CPU work, and no HDMI port. This 2022 redesign shares a name with the earlier Snapdragon 7c models, but CNET’s Joshua Goldman wrote: “The Chromebook Spin 513 (CP513-2H) is almost nothing like its predecessor, the Spin 513 (CP513-1H).” Those older CP513-1H and R841T machines have their own Acer Chromebook Spin 513 page. Google lists ChromeOS updates for the CP513-2H through June 2032, so the model is still supported.

A 3:2 touchscreen in a fanless aluminum convertible
The display is the 13.5-inch, 2256x1504 IPS panel Acer first used on the Spin 713 line, covered in Corning Gorilla Glass. The 3:2 shape gives more vertical room than a 16:9 laptop screen, which suits web pages, documents, and spreadsheets, though video plays with black bars above and below. The panel supports USI styluses, but no pen ships in the box.
The lid and base are aluminum and the keyboard deck is plastic. The 360-degree hinge folds the screen back into tent and tablet modes, and the body measures 0.64 inches thick and weighs 2.82 pounds. There are no vents or fan, so it runs silent under any load.
Ports are two USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 ports (one on each side, both for charging), one USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, a microSD slot, and a headphone and microphone jack. An HDMI monitor needs a USB-C adapter. Wireless is Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, and the webcam is 720p.
Inside is the MediaTek Kompanio 1380, an eight-core ARM chip with four Cortex-A78 cores at up to 3.0GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores, paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X and 128GB of eMMC storage. Both are soldered to the board. Acer rates the battery at up to 11 hours.
Reviewer Insights
Chrome Unboxed
Chrome Unboxed’s Robby Payne called the CP513-2H “easily one the most compelling Chromebooks on the market right now.” He measured 35,500 on Octane and 87 on Speedometer 2.0, scores he compared to a 10th-gen Intel Core i3, and wrote that it “flew through everything I could throw at it, and played Android games very, very well.” He ran two additional QHD monitors alongside the built-in display. Payne rated the backlit keyboard “a firm ‘meh’” and found the bottom-firing speakers thin, but he praised the glass trackpad and said the 720p webcam handled difficult lighting better than most Chromebook cameras, even though it looks grainy.
PCWorld
PCWorld’s Matthew S. Smith wrote that “Display quality is arguably the Acer Chromebook Spin 513’s defining trait,” measured a maximum of 359 nits, and recorded 12 hours and 34 minutes in the CrXPRT 2 battery test. On the keyboard, he called out its “spacious layout and large keys,” and he said the laptop “feels speedy in day-to-day use” with a dozen browser tabs open. His complaints were build quality at this price (some flex in the metal lid and the keyboard, and plastic-clad hinges), a finicky touchpad, and quiet speakers. His verdict: “Acer’s Chromebook Spin 513 is a solid, long-lasting 2-in-1 with a surprisingly excellent display.”
CNET
CNET’s Joshua Goldman scored it 8.0 out of 10. He noted Acer’s claim of up to 10 hours on Google’s power load test (Acer’s spec sheet lists 11 hours), then wrote: “On our streaming video test it blew right past that, hitting 13 hours and 51 minutes.” Goldman liked the fanless body: “The lack of vents not only looks nice, but the passive cooling means the fans won’t suddenly kick in when you’re in a quiet setting…” He listed the slower eMMC storage and thin audio as the tradeoffs, and concluded that “The sprightly performance, long battery life, a backlit keyboard and pen support matched with a premium fanless design make the Spin 513 a worthy Chromebook value.”
List price and other options
People who need HDMI, strong speakers, or the faster CPU of an Intel or AMD Chromebook should look at the Chromebook Comparison Chart instead. Acer’s list price is $599.99.
