The Paladin WO4 paired AMD’s Ryzen 7 7735U with a five-inch-square chassis. PELADN built the hardware and Empowered PC sold it under its own name, assembled and stress-tested in the USA, with a 3-year limited hardware warranty and lifetime technical support. It shipped in three configurations: 16GB/512GB, 16GB/1TB, and 32GB/1TB, with list prices of $299.99, $359.99, and $529.99.

An 8-Core Ryzen in a Five-Inch Box

The chassis measures 5.04 x 5.04 x 2.05 inches and weighs 1.3 pounds, light enough that the included VESA bracket can hang it off the back of a monitor. Cooling is active, with a fan pulling heat off the processor.

The Ryzen 7 7735U runs 8 cores and 16 threads with a 2.7 GHz base clock and boost clocks up to 4.75 GHz, built on a 6nm process with Zen 3+ architecture. Its PassMark CPU Mark score of about 20,500 is nearly four times that of the Intel N100 and N150 chips common in budget mini PCs. The Radeon 680M graphics carry 12 RDNA 2 compute units, enough for playable frame rates in older and lighter games but short of current AAA releases at high settings.

The front panel carries 2x USB 3.2 ports, one USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm combo audio jack, and the power button. The rear holds the DC input, 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.4, the second USB Type-C port, an Ethernet jack, and 2x USB 2.0 ports. The 16GB/512GB configuration listed at $299.99, and that price covered the warranty, the support line, and the mounting hardware. Memory and storage are open to the owner, so a thin base build does not have to stay that way. PELADN notes that its 7735U units typically ship with 16GB in single-channel mode, so adding a matching second module for dual-channel memory is the most useful upgrade, since the Radeon 680M depends on memory bandwidth.

Four 4K panels from a palm-sized box made it a good fit for a multi-monitor home-office desk. Video editors working with large 4K projects, and anyone expecting current games at high settings, needed a larger system with a discrete GPU.
