Blackview MP20 (Ryzen 3 3300U) lifestyle

The Blackview MP20 is a palm-sized Windows desktop for office work, web browsing, and media playback, and it can hang behind a monitor on the included bracket. Inside is AMD’s Ryzen 3 3300U, a laptop chip from 2019 whose PassMark CPU score is close to that of the Intel N150 in many current budget mini PCs. Blackview backs it with a three-year warranty. One reviewer saw it shut down under load on the bundled 30W power brick until he swapped in a 60W adapter.

Blackview MP20 connectivity: Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), Bluetooth 4.2, 1 Gbps Ethernet, and four USB-A ports

The case measures about 4 x 4 x 1.4 inches and weighs a little over half a pound. It is plastic throughout; ZDNET noted that even the ribbed copper-colored band around the top edge is plastic trim, not a heatsink. The front carries the power button, two USB-A 3.0 ports at 5Gbps, and a combo audio jack. The back holds two USB-A 2.0 ports, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort, a gigabit Ethernet port, a Kensington lock slot, and the barrel power input. There is no USB-C port.

Both video outputs run a 4K display at 60Hz, so the MP20 drives two monitors. Wireless comes from a Realtek 8821CE card: Wi-Fi 5 with a 433 Mbps maximum link and Bluetooth 4.2. The gigabit Ethernet port is also Realtek. Techtest called the Wi-Fi card weak, so the wired port is the better choice where a cable can reach.

Memory sits in a single DDR4 SO-DIMM slot that takes up to 32GB. With one module the Ryzen 3 3300U runs in single-channel mode, which limits the Vega 6 graphics more than a two-slot design would. Storage is one M.2 2280 slot holding a SATA SSD: 512GB in the 16GB model and 256GB in the 8GB model. Ex-IT guy swapped in an NVMe drive for his tests, so the slot is not limited to SATA. Because each part has one slot, an upgrade means replacing the module or drive that came with the machine rather than adding to it. Getting inside takes four screws under the rubber feet.

What reviewers measured

Graphic placing the Blackview MP20 in the Everyday performance tier, suited to productivity, video calls, and light editing but not AAA gaming or 3D rendering

ZDNET

Adrian Kingsley-Hughes at ZDNET scored the MP20 3.5 out of 5. He wrote that the chip “isn’t going to win any benchmark bragging rights or run AAA games or high-end video editing software, but it’s perfect for everyday tasks such as web browsing, media playback, or use as a media center.” He opened a couple of dozen Chrome tabs without trouble and measured about 3,300 multi-core and 870 single-core in Cinebench R23. On noise, he reported that “the fan never becomes noticeable.”

He ran Kodi and Plex on it and set it up as a personal cloud server with ownCloud. The lack of USB-C and the single RAM and M.2 slots went on his list of cons, while the three-year warranty counted as a plus: “Another win for the MP20 is the warranty.” He preferred the external power supply to an internal one, since a failed brick is cheap to replace.

Techtest

Michael Barton at Techtest reviewed the same 16GB/512GB configuration in German and came away less positive. In his benchmarks and his Handbrake encoding test, the MP20 ran slower than Intel N100 mini PCs such as the GEEKOM Mini Air12. He called the Realtek Wi-Fi card weak and was disappointed by the unbranded SATA SSD. He measured 6 to 7 watts at idle with a monitor and peripherals attached, 4.1 to 5.5 watts with nothing attached, and about 27 watts at full load.

The preinstalled Windows 11 Pro was free of malware in his check, but it tried to install an unidentified plugin for the preinstalled Chrome browser, so he recommends a clean reinstall; the Windows license carries over. He judged it acceptable for office and media use but overpriced for 2026 hardware, and pointed to Blackview’s own MP100 Pro with a Ryzen 5 7430U as the better buy.

Ex-IT guy

Ex-IT guy tested the MP20 for retro game emulation against a used HP ProDesk 600 G3 and an Intel N150 ZimaBoard 2. The MP20 ran the PlayStation, PSP, Dreamcast, and PS2 games he tried at full speed, along with Mario Kart: Double Dash on GameCube, and handled Mario Kart 8 on Wii U at about 45 to 52 FPS. Need for Speed Underground 2 on GameCube did not play well on any of the three machines. On PS3, the MP20 and the N150 board could not match the ProDesk’s 45 to 60 FPS in Need for Speed Carbon, and ran Batman: Arkham Asylum at about half its 15 to 25 FPS. On Xbox 360, Oblivion was playable on the ProDesk but poor on the other two, and MXGP was unplayable on all three. The MP20 generally trailed the N150 slightly, but it ran FlatOut at 60 FPS and scored far higher than both other machines in Geekbench’s Vulkan GPU test. It idled at 6.5 watts in Batocera, the lowest of the three. He found all three machines silent at idle and somewhat audible under load, and none of them noisy.

The MP20 shut off during Geekbench with a USB-powered display attached, drawing a little over 40 watts, and turned off again during game testing with nothing extra connected. A 60W brick fixed it. He reported this to Blackview, which declined to change the bundled adapter. In his words, “I really don’t like the fact that the power brick is not capable enough for this unit though!”

Our verdict

The MP20 fits a desk or the back of a TV where the jobs are office documents, a couple of dozen browser tabs, Kodi or Plex playback, and emulation up through PS2. It stays quiet, idles at about 6 to 7 watts, drives two 4K displays, and carries a three-year warranty. Plan on a 60W 12V barrel adapter, since the bundled 30W brick shut one reviewer’s unit down under load.

Skip it if you need USB-C, faster Wi-Fi, or more speed than a 2019 chip whose PassMark score sits near an Intel N150. Techtest measured Intel N100 boxes such as the GEEKOM Mini Air12 ahead of it, and the Air12 adds two USB-C ports. Techtest also named Blackview’s MP100 Pro, with a Ryzen 5 7430U, as the better buy. Frequently Asked Questions

How old is the Ryzen 3 3300U in the Blackview MP20?

AMD launched the Ryzen 3 3300U in early 2019. It is a 15W Zen+ laptop chip built on a 12nm process, with four cores, four threads, a 2.1GHz base clock, a 3.5GHz boost clock, and 4MB of L3 cache. AMD rates it for DDR4 at up to 2400 MT/s.

Can I upgrade the RAM in the Blackview MP20?

Yes. The slot takes a DDR4 SO-DIMM of up to 32GB, and the chip runs memory at up to 2400 MT/s. Swapping the stock 16GB or 8GB module for a 32GB one adds capacity but leaves bandwidth the same.

What power adapter does the Blackview MP20 need?

It takes 12V through a barrel connector, and Blackview ships a 12V/2.5A (30W) adapter. Ex-IT guy’s unit stopped shutting down under load once he switched to the 60W brick from his ZimaBoard 2.

Can the Blackview MP20 run Linux?

Blackview says it supports Linux and Ubuntu. Ex-IT guy ran the emulation distribution Batocera on it from an NVMe drive. Blackview’s support site gives Esc, F2, or F12 as the keys for the boot menu and BIOS.

Is there an Intel version of the Blackview MP20?

Yes. Blackview also builds the MP20 with an Intel N150 in the same case, in 8GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB configurations. Blackview’s spec sheet gives that version Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 instead of the Ryzen model’s Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2.

Does the Blackview MP20 restart after a power outage?

It can. Blackview says auto power-on after an outage and Wake-on-LAN are both available as BIOS settings.
