ORIGIMAGIC C7 lifestyle

The ORIGIMAGIC C7 is a small office desktop with two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the rear panel. It runs the Intel Core 3 100U, a six-core, eight-thread laptop chip from early 2024, with 16GB of DDR4 and a 512GB NVMe SSD. Buy it if you will use Thunderbolt for a dock, fast external storage, four monitors, or an external GPU enclosure. If you will not use Thunderbolt, simpler boxes with the Core 3 100U do the same job.

Two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the back

ORIGIMAGIC C7 connectivity: WiFi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.2, 2.5 Gbps Ethernet, four USB-A and two Thunderbolt 4 ports

The front panel holds two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a 3.5mm headset jack and an orange power button. Everything else is on the rear: the DC input, two HDMI 2.0 outputs, the two Thunderbolt 4 ports, the RJ45 jack, one more USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port and a USB 2.0 port for a keyboard or mouse receiver. Intel lists Thunderbolt 4 as a built-in feature of the Core 3 100U, which is how a machine this size gets 40 Gbps ports without an extra controller.

Each Thunderbolt 4 port can drive a display, and ORIGIMAGIC rates them for up to 8K at 60Hz. With both HDMI ports in use at 4K and 60Hz, the C7 can run four screens at once, which matches Intel’s four-display limit for the chip.

Networking is a single 2.5 Gbps port on a Realtek RTL8125, with Intel AX201 WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 for wireless. That is enough for a fast link to a NAS, but anyone who wants a router or firewall box with two wired ports needs a different machine.

Memory and storage upgrades

The C7 has two DDR4 SODIMM slots rated for 3200MT/s and up to 64GB in total. ORIGIMAGIC describes the 16GB as dual-channel, which needs a module in each slot, but one Amazon buyer found a single 16GB stick in their unit, so the stick layout is not settled. Check what is installed before an upgrade: if the unit has a single 16GB stick and a free slot, adding a matching module doubles memory bandwidth as well as capacity.

The 512GB SSD sits in an M.2 2280 slot on PCIe 3.0 x4. A second M.2 slot is the short 2242 size and accepts SATA drives only, up to 2TB. A common 2280 NVMe drive will not fit it, so plan on buying a 2242 SATA drive for that slot.

About double an N100, behind Core Ultra

ORIGIMAGIC C7 performance tier: Everyday, handles productivity suites, 1080p video calls, light photo and video editing, and casual 720p gaming

The Intel Core 3 100U has two performance cores and four efficient cores, eight threads in total, 10MB of cache, a 4.7GHz boost clock and a 15W base power rating. Intel launched it in the first quarter of 2024 as part of its Core Series 1 line and lists it under the Raptor Lake code name, like the 13th generation Core i3-1315U. Its CPU Mark score of about 12,600 is roughly double the Intel N100 (about 5,300) and short of current Core Ultra 5 U-series chips (about 16,900 for the Core Ultra 5 125U).

The chip handles office suites, a browser with many tabs, video calls and light photo editing. Long exports and compiles run slower than on an H-series chip, which is normal for a 15W U-series part in a box this small.

The integrated Intel Graphics has 64 execution units and supports hardware decoding of H.264, H.265 and AV1, so 4K streaming is not a problem. Gaming stops at older and casual titles at low resolution; modern games at native settings are out of reach without an external GPU on one of the Thunderbolt ports.

Who the C7 suits

The C7 fits a home office or small business desk where the Thunderbolt ports will be used: a single-cable dock, a four-monitor trading or monitoring setup, or fast external storage. ORIGIMAGIC ships it with Windows 11 Pro and lists Linux, Proxmox VE and VMware ESXi support, so it can also serve as a small home server with a 2.5 Gbps link.

Skip it if you need two Ethernet ports, two NVMe drives, or DDR5. Buyers who will never plug in a Thunderbolt device get the same processor in simpler boxes such as the BOSGAME E7, which trades Thunderbolt for two Gigabit ports and a DisplayPort output.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the ORIGIMAGIC C7 have Thunderbolt 4?

Yes. Both USB-C ports on the rear are Thunderbolt 4, with 40 Gbps of bandwidth and video output on each. Intel lists Thunderbolt 4 support for the Core 3 100U processor inside.

How many monitors can the ORIGIMAGIC C7 run?

Four. The two HDMI 2.0 ports each support 4K at 60Hz, and the two Thunderbolt 4 ports each carry a display signal that ORIGIMAGIC rates for up to 8K at 60Hz.

How much RAM does the ORIGIMAGIC C7 support?

Up to 64GB of DDR4-3200 across two SODIMM slots. It ships with 16GB installed.

Can you add a second SSD to the ORIGIMAGIC C7?

Yes, but only an M.2 2242 SATA drive, up to 2TB. The spare slot does not take NVMe drives or the longer 2280 size. The main 2280 slot holds the included 512GB NVMe SSD on PCIe 3.0 x4.

Will the ORIGIMAGIC C7 run Linux?

ORIGIMAGIC ships the C7 with Windows 11 Pro and lists Linux (including Ubuntu), Proxmox VE and VMware ESXi as supported.
