Reatan X8
Published on
The Reatan X8 is a compact desktop for development, virtual machines, and multi-monitor work, built around AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 from the Ryzen AI 400 series. Reatan announced it in June 2026. It sits above Reatan’s Ryzen 7 based X7 and has an OCuLink port for a desktop graphics card. Reatan installs the 48GB as a single module, so the integrated graphics run on one memory channel until a second module goes in.

Ports, chassis, and expansion
The X8 is a silver metal box about 5 inches square and 2 inches tall, with perforated grilles on the sides and a vent band across the back. The front carries two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, one USB4 port, a combo audio jack, a CMOS reset pinhole, and two microphones. The back holds the second USB4 port, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.0, the OCuLink port, one 2.5GbE jack, a USB 2.0 port, and the barrel input for the 19V, 120W power adapter. HDMI, DisplayPort, and both USB4 ports each drive a display, for up to four screens at once. HDMI and DisplayPort are rated for 8K at 60Hz.
Inside are two DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM slots and two M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots. Reatan quotes 96GB of memory and 8TB of storage as the maximums. The OCuLink port connects through a PCIe bracket that ships in the box and occupies one M.2 slot, so a machine with an external GPU attached keeps a single slot for storage. OCuLink carries PCIe 4.0 x4, up to 64Gbps, which gives a desktop graphics card more bandwidth than either USB4 port. Networking is WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and one 2.5GbE port with Wake-on-LAN. A router or firewall build needs a box with two wired ports.
Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 performance, memory, and cooling
AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 is a current laptop chip with 12 cores and 24 threads (four full Zen 5 cores and eight compact Zen 5c cores), a 5.2GHz boost clock, and a 55 TOPS NPU. It scores about 36,900 in PassMark’s CPU Mark, enough for code builds, several virtual machines, and video exports. The integrated Radeon 890M has 16 RDNA 3.5 compute units and suits 1080p gaming at moderate settings. Reatan’s 86 TOPS figure adds the CPU, GPU, and NPU together; the NPU alone is the 55 TOPS part.
The Radeon 890M shares system memory, so one module halves the bandwidth it can draw on compared with two matched modules. A second module in the free slot restores dual-channel operation for gaming and other GPU work. Local AI models on the integrated GPU hit the same single-channel limit, so token output slows until the second module goes in.
Reatan cools the chip with dual copper heat pipes, a main blower fan, and a second fan over the memory and SSD, with adjustable fan modes. Reatan rates the X8 at 37C at idle, under 85C at full load, and under 40dB in Performance mode.
Warranty and a same-chip alternative
Reatan backs the X8 with a 30-day return window, a one-year hardware warranty, and three years of online technical support.
The MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470 uses the same processor with two 2.5GbE ports, three M.2 slots, an SD card reader, and a built-in power supply in a larger case.
Upgrades
Accessories that fit the Reatan X8's OCuLink and USB4 or Thunderbolt ports.

DEG1 eGPU Dock
A plain OCuLink dock with a PCIe 4.0 x4 link for a desktop graphics card; it takes an ATX or SFX power supply that you supply.

EG02 eGPU Dock
Connects over OCuLink for the full PCIe 4.0 x4 link and has Thunderbolt 5 as a second input; the graphics card and power supply are sold separately.

Core X V2
A Thunderbolt 5 enclosure that Razer lists as working with Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 hosts; it fits a four-slot card and needs an ATX power supply.

DEG2 eGPU Dock
Connects over USB4 or Thunderbolt 5, with an OCuLink input behind a switch, and adds an M.2 slot; it needs an ATX or SFX power supply.

Breakaway Box 850 T5
Has an 850W power supply built in, so only the graphics card is extra, and works with Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 Windows PCs.

TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock
An 18-port dock that CalDigit lists for Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 hosts, with 2.5GbE and a DisplayPort 1.4 output.

TBT4-UD5 Thunderbolt 4 Dock
Two HDMI ports drive two 4K60 monitors from one Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 port on a Windows PC.

Revodok Max 208 Thunderbolt 4 Dock
Adds three Thunderbolt 4 ports for dual 4K60 displays plus gigabit Ethernet; it has no HDMI port, so monitors connect over USB-C or an adapter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Reatan X8 ship with dual-channel memory?
No. Reatan fits one 48GB Crucial DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM and leaves the second slot empty. A second 48GB DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM gives two matched modules and 96GB in total.
Can I connect an external graphics card to the Reatan X8?
Yes, through the OCuLink port and an external GPU dock. An OCuLink dock, its power supply, and the graphics card are bought separately.
How many monitors can the Reatan X8 run?
Four. Reatan rates the two USB4 outputs for 4K at 60Hz, so an 8K screen goes on HDMI or DisplayPort.
How much memory and storage does the Reatan X8 support?
The maximums are two 48GB SO-DIMMs and two 4TB M.2 drives. The X8 ships with one 48GB module and one 1TB or 2TB SSD, so one memory slot and one M.2 slot start out free.
How is the Reatan X8 different from the Reatan X7?
The X8 uses the 12-core Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 with Radeon 890M graphics and a 55 TOPS NPU. The X7 uses an 8-core Ryzen 7 with Radeon 780M graphics and costs less, starting at $429 as a barebone kit without memory or storage. Both offer OCuLink, two USB4 ports, WiFi 7, and 2.5GbE in a similar 5-inch metal case.
