GEEKOM IT12 MAX
Published on
The GEEKOM IT12 MAX is an office mini PC for buyers who care more about ports than raw speed. It pairs Intel’s Core Ultra 5 125U, a 15W Meteor Lake chip, with two 2.5GbE jacks and two USB4 ports in a box a little over 5 inches square. The 16GB of LPDDR5 is soldered to the board and cannot be upgraded, and that limit decides the purchase. If 16GB covers your work for the next few years, the I/O and the 3-year warranty make it a good fit for an office desk, a wall of monitors, or an always-on home lab.

Eight USB ports, two network jacks, and four display outputs
The IT12 MAX uses the same 5.35 x 5.20 x 1.97 inch body as GEEKOM’s IT13 MAX, and it weighs about 1.8 pounds. The front carries four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, a 3.5mm headset jack, and the power button. The SD 4.0 slot sits on one side and a Kensington lock slot on the other. The rear holds two USB4 Type-C ports with DisplayPort Alt Mode, one more USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, one USB 2.0 Type-A, two HDMI 2.0 outputs, two 2.5GbE RJ45 jacks, and the DC input. One of the USB4 ports also accepts USB-C power in. GEEKOM rates the four video outputs for four 4K displays or one 8K panel.
Two separate 2.5GbE ports let the box sit between a modem and a home network as a firewall, or keep a lab network apart from a work network. GEEKOM also lists an S5 always-on USB port that keeps a camera or access device powered while the PC is off, a feature for kiosk and signage setups. For an external GPU, the two USB4 ports are the only path; see the tradeoffs between USB4 and OCuLink before buying an enclosure for this machine.
A 12-core U-series chip that handles office work and 1080p editing
The Core Ultra 5 125U has 2 performance cores, 8 efficient cores, and 2 low-power efficient cores (12 cores, 14 threads) with a 4.3GHz boost. Intel rates it at 15W base power, and GEEKOM lets you switch between 20W, 25W, and 28W modes. Its PassMark CPU Mark is about 16,900. That is enough for office suites, many browser tabs, video calls, and light photo work, and it sits well ahead of the N-series chips in budget mini PCs. Meteor Lake launched in late 2023, though, so in 2026 the 125U trails Intel’s Core Ultra 200 series and current Ryzen AI chips, and its NPU does not reach the 40 TOPS Microsoft requires for Copilot+ PC features.
The integrated Intel Graphics uses four Xe cores. That handles 4K media playback and AV1 decode, and older games run at 1080p, but new and demanding titles need lower settings or an external GPU. The 16GB of LPDDR5-5600 is fixed. GEEKOM’s own Mini IT12 line uses SO-DIMM slots instead, so a buyer who wants 32GB or 64GB later should look there or at another model.
Two M.2 slots, with the primary one limited to 2TB
The installed drive is a 500GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD (a Kingston NV3 in Nextren’s test unit) in an M.2 2280 slot that GEEKOM rates for up to 2TB. A second M.2 2242 slot adds room for a smaller drive. There is no 2.5-inch SATA bay. For a file server or a media library, plan on replacing the 500GB drive or filling the second slot on day one.
Reviewer Insights
Nextren
Nextren (Indonesian, August 2026) benchmarked the IT12 MAX. The unit scored 2,112 single-core and 9,219 multi-core in Geekbench 6, and 1,533 single-core and 8,670 multi-core in Cinebench R23 (an average of 10 runs). UL Procyon Office Productivity scored 5,857. In Procyon’s Premiere Pro test, a 1080p H.264 export took about 3 minutes 34 seconds and a 4K H.265 export about 6 minutes 57 seconds. Nextren concluded that 1080p editing is comfortable and light 4K work is possible, but heavy batch processing and long video projects are not this machine’s strength.
On graphics, Nextren measured a 3DMark Time Spy graphics score of 1,912. At 1080p it recorded averages of 47.9 fps in GTA V and 49.5 fps in Delta Force on high settings, and 28 fps in F1 on low. Delta Force’s 1% lows fell to 17.7 fps, so play was uneven in heavy moments. Nextren called it entry-level iGPU gaming.
Nextren rated cooling as one of the best parts of the machine. In a Cinebench R23 loop the CPU held about 25W in Balanced mode after short boosts to about 44W. Temperatures sat around 62 to 66 C under sustained load, with brief peaks of 91 to 93 C, and Nextren saw no sustained thermal throttling. It found a plastic middle frame between metal top and bottom covers. Its main complaints were the soldered 16GB, the 500GB drive, and an NPU below the Copilot+ bar, and it noted that buyers after raw CPU or GPU performance for the money can find faster alternatives at a similar price. It named connectivity as the strongest reason to pick this model over faster mini PCs.
The IT13 MAX and Mini IT12 are the closest GEEKOM alternatives
The IT13 MAX shares this chassis and port layout but uses the much faster 16-core Core Ultra 9 185H, and its 16GB model takes DDR5 SO-DIMMs up to 96GB. The Mini IT12 is the smaller, older 12th-gen line with upgradeable memory and a single 2.5GbE port. The IT12 MAX sits between them: newer silicon than the Mini IT12, dual LAN and Wi-Fi 7 in a 15W-class box, at the cost of fixed memory and less CPU power than the IT13 MAX.
A port-heavy business box for buyers who can live with 16GB
Before buying, check how much memory your current workload uses on a busy day, since the IT12 MAX cannot add more later. If that number is already close to 16GB, an upgradeable model is the safer pick. To compare it with other models, use Starry Hope’s Mini PC Comparison Chart.
